The history

Ian and Tina are the fourth generation of the Beckett family to own The Woodlands after it was originally built in 1903 by Ian’s great grandfather, George.  Over the years Horace, Peter and Ian have built upon the vision created by George moving with the times and external influences.

The farmhouse and the surrounding buildings were built using  bricks that were formed out of clay found on the land  lying to the north and west of the farm.  Initially a dairy herd and pigs were the mainstay of the farm, however pigs ceased  to be kept after 1988. The farm has continued up until 2016 with a dairy herd of over a hundred freisian cows and has seen its milk being produced into cheese locally in Whitchurch.  Alongside milking the farm has reared beef animals.

The future will see The Woodlands continue as a beef producing unit where the breeds of Hereford, Limousin, Simmental & Aberdeen Angus will graze the fields surrounding the farmhouse.  Our vision is always to have animals  wandering the farmland that The Woodlands was originally built for but now we wish to share the peacefulness and tranquillity of the area with our guests.

Your hosts

A big Welsh welcome from Tina, Ian and Alys awaits you at The Woodlands. The opening of the new guest accommodation is the culmination of a childhood dream for Tina and she and the family are keen to ensure that everyone who stays at the farm enjoys their time there and has everything they need.

Tina has spent many years away on business in her career as a cheese grader and she understands the needs of those who travel for work. If your stay is a simple overnight stop, you can be sure it will be as comfortable and as hassle free as possible, with the extra touches that will allow you to feel at home should you want them.

Having made the decision to stop milking the cows, Ian is expanding the beef rearing side of the farm and is also running a diversification project of his own in one of the farm buildings. He has lived on the farm all his life, so if you need to know anything about the local area, he will be happy to help you.
